Since the Westwood Neighborhood Greenway was first conceived, it has been supported and championed by volunteers. Neighbors, plant enthusiasts, and a variety of professionals developed the idea, shepherded it through concept and planning, assisted the City with the details of the landscaping and signage, and celebrated when it was completed in October 2020.
As we transition to a sustainable model, we need your help!
In 2020, the non-profit Westwood Greenway, Inc. (WGI) was formed to support and ensure the success of the Greenway. The bulk of the plant maintenance has been done by volunteer weeders. Field trips and tours have been led by volunteers. WGI’s board and officers all volunteer their time.
Weeding/Maintenance Teams
WHEN: second Saturday and fourth Sunday from 9 – 11
Please confirm on the calendar for regular Open / weeding days.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Plan on getting dirty! Please wear closed-toed shoes / boots, protective clothing and sun protection. Some plants are scratchy and some areas are rocky or have uneven ground. Bring water.
Watering (New Plants) Teams
Even our climate adapted native plants need water to get established. When we put in new plants we commit to watering them for about 2 years.
WHEN: We ask for a commitment of 1 day/month (~ 2 hours).
See calendar for regular, scheduled WATERING DAYS.
WHAT TO EXPECT: You must be able to lift and carry about 3 gallons of water in a 5 gallon bucket over rocky terrain.
Community Service
The Westwood Neighborhood Greenway is ideal for high school students, sports teams, Scout troops, and people of all ages wanting community service hours.
Just two hours of weeding, pruning, and trash pick-up can really help maintain the biodiversity and functioning of the Greenway.
Activities are all outdoor and child friendly.
Westwood Greenway, Inc. is not responsible for your safety and adequate supervision of children must be provided.
