What is a Riparian Habitat?

Riparian habitat thrives in areas adjacent to water, such as streams and wetlands, playing a vital role in supporting biodiversity. Along the Greenway, native riparian plants have been strategically placed along the bottom and sides of the bioswale, recreating the functions of a natural stream. These plants help filter runoff, stabilize the soil, and provide essential habitat for local wildlife, enhancing the ecosystem while improving water quality.

The California Native Plant Society’s website has plant pictures and descriptions, landscaping information (climate, sun, soil, moisture, watering), wildlife supported, and nurseries where they are available.
